    temporary ones can be scouted in advance, there are plenty of them, I ride through them regularly in Texas.

      set up and taken down (even with vehicle 'search' equipment along), not likely to be "scouted" out.
      And they use a lot of well-placed, hidden, surreptitious observation points, both manned and remote (don't ask how I know).
      Unless you are privy to inside, day to day ops info, you aren't likely to avoid them except by dumb luck.
