    than 25 years. Forgive me for correcting you. And of course it's silly to do this in an old, dead thread.

    1. ICE is not the same as the INS.  It is now what used to be part of the INS, which used to be in the Department of Justice.

    2. No, the INS was never part of the Department of State.  However, the Department of State has always been involved in some immigration decisions.

    3. I don't understand what you mean by "Customs commercial enforcement."  The Customs part of the Treasury Department was incorporated into the Department of Homeland Security after 9/11.  

    4. You're basically correct that Customs and Border Control is what used to be the Immigration and Naturalization Service Border Patrol, which was part of the Department of Justice, except that you omit the fact that the "Customs" part was moved over from the U.S. Customs Department.

    Just to be precise.
