  •  For a long, long time, our electoral process has (9+ / 0-)

been polluted by blind ambition, by ego and self-aggrandisement, and by people who have spent their entire lives running for the Highest Office.

It was not always that way. In our first three decades, America drafted all of the Chief Executives. It was not ambition which got you elected, or ego, or money, or organization, it was your force of ideas. The best Chief Executives had to be dragged into the contest, and although no one really wanted it, the best made it to the White House.

If we are to return to our former status as a Government of the People, we must understand that those who want it so badly they will do and say ANYTHING to get there, WILL do and say anything to get there. That is the definition of our current problem in leadership. Leaders cannot self-choose. Leaders are chosen by the people because of ideas, speaking, and effective analysis of our current state.

I think Ms. Warren really does not care if she is elected President. She has plenty of laurels. What she wants is to change America's point of view, and by doing that, she is showing leadership, not pollstership, not egocentrism, not ambition, but authentic leadership.

At this point, it is not up to her. It is up to us to choose a leader whether they want to lead or not. She can do it, because by the end of this process, it will be obvious who the real leader is.

    •  Sorry, Oregon, but that train (4+ / 0-)

left the station long, long ago. It's also not really accurate. For example, that noble slave owner, Thomas Jefferson, paid a journalist to write that John Adams was a pimp who rented out his wife! These supposedly noble founders of the country were tough rivals who slugged it out just as ruthlessly as anyone today.

      •  Time for a new kind of person. (0+ / 0-)

Self-promoting people are really the wrong type of personality to run a real democracy. We are trying to dismantle the idea that we are an Empire, and nothing will change until we change the default personality of the people who lead the country.

We have to start soon, because the world is not kind to Empires. We need to decide to pull back from cultivating our Caesars, because if we don't the world will do it for us. It is that simple. Choose to return to democracy or suffer eventual diminishment as a former Empire.

      •  Are you denying that some leaders actually care (0+ / 0-)

and are drawn to actual service?  Sounds like it.

Sometimes the times do pick their leaders.  Whether this is one of those times, we don't know.  (And sometimes old-way leaders blow the opportunity of the moment.)

        •  I have little faith in leaders (0+ / 0-)

I also think that parliamentary democracies are inherently superior to republics like the USA. They are more flexible, more accountable, and the majority Party gets to enact its agenda, unlike in the USA where nothing is ever over and gridlock is the order of the day. Give me a parliament any day where the chief executive has to submit to questions and criticism every day. Good people are drawn to service, but they are either corrupted or made ineffectual. The system is way bigger and stronger than the person. Just my opinion.
