  •  Sorry, Oregon, but that train (4+ / 0-)

left the station long, long ago. It's also not really accurate. For example, that noble slave owner, Thomas Jefferson, paid a journalist to write that John Adams was a pimp who rented out his wife! These supposedly noble founders of the country were tough rivals who slugged it out just as ruthlessly as anyone today.

    •  Time for a new kind of person. (0+ / 0-)

Self-promoting people are really the wrong type of personality to run a real democracy. We are trying to dismantle the idea that we are an Empire, and nothing will change until we change the default personality of the people who lead the country.

We have to start soon, because the world is not kind to Empires. We need to decide to pull back from cultivating our Caesars, because if we don't the world will do it for us. It is that simple. Choose to return to democracy or suffer eventual diminishment as a former Empire.

    •  Are you denying that some leaders actually care (0+ / 0-)

and are drawn to actual service?  Sounds like it.

Sometimes the times do pick their leaders.  Whether this is one of those times, we don't know.  (And sometimes old-way leaders blow the opportunity of the moment.)

      •  I have little faith in leaders (0+ / 0-)

I also think that parliamentary democracies are inherently superior to republics like the USA. They are more flexible, more accountable, and the majority Party gets to enact its agenda, unlike in the USA where nothing is ever over and gridlock is the order of the day. Give me a parliament any day where the chief executive has to submit to questions and criticism every day. Good people are drawn to service, but they are either corrupted or made ineffectual. The system is way bigger and stronger than the person. Just my opinion.
