I have a work friend who is very Christian.  She is a Republican, but not an ideologue.  I have always given her political space, since she does not go in for politics.  We are both pretty much on the same page regarding compassion for others.  She says to me, "Why do you watch the news?  It's so depressing."  I say, "Someone has to do it."  Then I tell a bad news, good news binary.  "The bad news is a man beat his 3 year old son to death because he didn't want the child to be gay. The good news is that  Autism is on the decline since they took Mercury out of the vaccines."  Both these stories touched her heart.  And mine.  Both these stories are issues liberals are fighting about.

We newshounds have it within our sphere of influence to tell people what is going on.

I don't know where she stood on the Shiavo case, but I showed her the (Time mag?),  shot of Terri's CT brain scan. She didn't comment, but she is a Nurse, & knows what a abnormal CT brain is.

My point is, people are reachable.  We respect each other, & are not in each other's face about abortion, etc.  I know she's conservative, she knows I'm liberal.  We reach each other in altruism.

There is a way to communicate.  People don't want to be at war with each other.

OTOH, I have a RW ideologue colleague who pushes my political buttons, & we fight & get nasty with each other, but not to the point of rank vindictiveness.  We get along otherwise.  The ideolgue spews TP's & has no compassion. I have much more respect for the conservative Christian.
