to make English the official language, according to the wapo article I linked below. But I guess they didn't appropriate funds for English teachers ;)

Me and my wife and our Democratic friends fought that as hard as we possibly could, and it was still a tragedy.

I was in Federal Court in Baltimore not long ago and a United States judge asked me where I was from.  When I said Carroll County, he immediately said:  "So that's where they passed an English-only law"!

I was humiliated, although I fight the wingnuts tooth and nail.

P.S. My wife and I moved out here for many good reasons.  We have a beautiful property where we have room for horses and donkeys and gardens and such.  And we got farther away from a nuclear attack on Washington, D.C. (I know for sure that the U.S. Government thinks that is a much higher threat--5% over 20 years, as I recall--than you've probably ever considerered).

We spent many months after the Republicans stole the 2004 presidential election searching all over Maryland for another property.

Stupid as we were, we didn't realize we were placing everything we have in a super Tea Party area.

Long story...I'll stop there...more to say.

in Prince Georges County. About 4 miles from the US Capitol Building. During the cold war. With "air raid" drills going in school - go downstairs to the cafeteria, crawl under the table, and kiss your ass goodbye. We knew a thing or two about nuclear threat, let me tell you.

school in Montgomery County, Maryland (Bethesda, Maryland), I spent many a terrified minute under my desk during nuclear preparation drills.

My mother dramatically told me (at age 8) and my two younger brothers that we had one day to live, expecting nuclear bombs from Cuba.  Seriously.  Look it up.

I think I still actually have PTSD from that.

--deleting lots of family history here, but trust me it's here--

It's a wonder I'm still alive.  Everybody else in my immediate family is dead years ago, except my ex-Marine father who is very sick at 87.  Heaven help us all.

Today I think that love will win, forever.

      •  I was driving home to Frederick from Baltimore ... (0+ / 0-)

I was driving home to Frederick from Baltimore on I-70 during the '04 election season and saw a bumper sticker: "Courage is being a registered Democrat in Carroll County". Was that you?
