  •  My opinion (FWIW) (15+ / 0-)

is that scheduled interleague play ruined the All Star Game.

In the olden days, there were only two chances to see the best pitchers in one league potentially face the best hitters in the other -- the World Series and the All-Star Game. Now, what's the point of seeing Clayton Kershaw pitch to Derek Jeter when the Dodgers already faced the Yankees in interleague play last season? Or if the Giants make it to the World Series and face the Tigers, it will be a rematch not just of 2012 (minus a few players like Prince Fielder) but of a series that's taking place in September in Detroit. There's no novelty in the matchups anymore.

I could write a whole essay on what's wrong with the All Star Game...but I do need to get to bed before 3am so I'd best not start.

Fellow Giants fan here -- I do quite a bit of chatting during the games either on Twitter on the #SFGiants hashtag or at this site. Twitter brought me into a casual acquaintance with one of the Giants pre/post game TV analysts -- that's been very cool. :-)

    •  Thanks for this Cali. . . I see your point on (10+ / 0-)

the interleague thing--have read similar viewpoints, especially in the last few days.  For me, the reality show hype of pre-game stuff isn't that appealing. But MLB wants more eyes on the game, so. . .

I was b****g during much of the game that T[baseball]PTB really don't like the Giants very much and where were any of our guys, like Pence, Hudson, etc.  I mean, even The Houston Astros were represented! And when the game ended I was really ticked off. Then I checked the box scores and sure enough, Hunter Pence had come up in the 6th (sadly, 0 for 1) and I thought How Did I Miss That??  Then it dawned on me: the analysts were busy chatting with Derek Jeter (after he'd left the game) and didn't show Pence, I guess.  I admire Jeter and enjoyed the tributes to him, but People!  Some respect for Los Gigantes, por favor!

      •  In a way, I didn't want any of our guys (10+ / 0-)

at the game, or at least the bare minimum -- they really need the rest. Glad Hudson didn't pitch so it won't affect the post-break rotation, though I wish Bumgarner had been eligible to pinch-hit. (I was watching Sunday on TV when he hit his second grand slam of the season.)

Warned you...get me going on baseball and I'll keep you up all night. My Giants analyst acquaintance is always praising my baseball knowledge...which makes me melt into a puddle of orange and black goo. ;-)
