to stop the closing of a hospital in eastern North Carolina.  Can anyone from North Carolina shed some light on this issue?

Is this an issue that could sway some rural whites in North Carolina to vote Democratic over this issue?

The Mayor of Belhaven, in Eastern NC (and VERY red) was joined by Rev William Barber president of the NC NAACP, and leader of the Moral Monday protests in asking Pat McCrony to accept the federal Medicaid expansion.  It was this refusal that led, or will lead, to the hospital being closed since so many of the cases it sees are Medicaid patients -- or would be under the expansion.  This is not just a problem in Belhaven, it's been reported at other clinics and hospitals in the Eastern part of the state, and is probably just as big an issue in the extreme western part of the state as well (we just don't hear as much about the mountains in the part of the state I live in).

I'm not sure this will get the rural white Republicans to switch sides, but it may help motivate those few rural white Dems in these deep red districts to get out and vote.  That's the best I'm hoping for, really.
