  •  and the answer to that (0+ / 0-)

    depends on what Jews think.

on who is having the conversation, and for what purpose. Jews get to decide what is officially Jewish for their own purposes. They do not get to tell everybody else what to do or think, any more than non-Jews do. Except possibly within the Hobby Lobby decision, where Jewish companies could in principle say

No pig insulin for our employees through our insurance plan
      because it's trayf.

      •  what purposes (0+ / 0-)

would entitle non-Jews to decide who is a Jew, beyond their personal opinion?

        •  Not beyond their personal opinion (0+ / 0-)

They could discuss their own personal opinions, as long as they don't think they would get to impose those opinions on Jews, or anybody else.

          •  Aaron demonstrates well the irrationality and (0+ / 0-)

bigotry and arrogance that tribalism breeds. The question is whether Jews for Jesus are Jews. Aaron claims that only "Jews" are "entitled" to decide this question ... an absurd circularity that ignores the fact that the very question is a matter of who is a Jew. If anyone is "entitled" to decide whether Jews for Jesus are Jews, it's the Jews for Jesus themselves, and we know where they stand.

        •  What purposes would entitle SOME Jews to decide (0+ / 0-)

whether some other person IS a Jew or ISN'T a Jew?

One could use your same idiotic formulation to ask what purposes would entitle non-married people to decide who is married, beyond their personal opinion.

No self-delineated group has any "entitlement" to decide who is or is not anything.

    •  First: no, it doesn't. (0+ / 0-)

Second: you've gone from "a lot of Jews" to "Jews".

As I've said before, you're not intellectually honest.

    •  Why doesn't it depend on what Muslims and (0+ / 0-)

Christians think? Why doesn't it depend on what the people themselves (those who might or might not be Jewish Muslims or Christians) think? Why doesn't it depend on the entire community of speakers and reasoners who use the language think, as does any other semantic question, like "what is marriage"? Why just Jews, or "a lot of Jews" (but not, it seems, including the very Jews in question)?

      Clue: Those are rhetorical questions.

    •  A lot of men and women think that they are (0+ / 0-)

entitled to decide that transgendered persons aren't men, or aren't women. These small minded bigots will be thrilled to know that you're an ally.
