  •  Toll this week in Gaza is approaching this level (3+ / 0-)

just to put it in perspective. And I don't see a groundswell of hawkishness in Washington demanding strong sanctions or even military action against Tel Aviv.

Apparently some civilian deaths are more reprehensible than others; some are just acceptable collateral damage.

but I was talking about the European response to this European crisis.

      •  So those dead people don't mean anything (2+ / 0-)

because other people died somewhere else in the world?

What Israel is doing is wrong, and this is wrong too. Some of us don't like American foreign policy and NSA policy and Russia saved Snowden and counteracts some of the stuff we do. I get it.

300 or so people are dead because of this. It's a tragedy. A lot fewer people died in Newtown. I guess you didn't care about those dead kids?

Sorry this kind of stuff seriously pisses me off.

When we stop putting leaders from the past up on pedestals and ignoring their flaws, we can start seeing our present leaders for what they really are.

    •  Oh, the casualties in Gaza over the last week (1+ / 0-)

are already WAY higher than this incident.

    •  And the total number of people killed in the Congo (3+ / 0-)

in the past 20 years is around 50 times the number of people who have been killed, total, in the entire Arab-Israeli conflict.

Yet for some reason, I hear almost nonstop criticism of Israel and how evil Israel is, and very little about Rwanda and Uganda.

And the amount of world outrage at Israel is around 100000 times the amount of world outrage aimed at Rwanda and Uganda, or any of the other players in the Congo war.

So yes, it does seem like some civilian deaths are more reprehensible than others, to many around the world.
