  •  Pro Israel (16+ / 0-)

It is pro Israel to advocate for a peace process that results in and end to the twin disasters of the occupation and the oppression of Palestinian rights to self determination.   It is pro US to do so.  The occupation is corrosive and destructive to Israel.   It must end.

It is a home for ethical monotheists whose teachings have inspired the world.

The forces of hate being unleashed in Israel now will turn on their fellow citizens, if they haven't already.

Anyone considering a dog for personal safety should treat that decision as seriously as they would buying a gun.

They seem farther away than ever from recognizing Palestinian rights.

They have enough weaponry they can do what they want in Gaza and the West Bank. There is no effective international sanction.

Israel's people seem to be letting hate & war-mongering get the upper hand.

They are more invested than ever in believing their propaganda. And less willing to compromise.

They seem more ready to accept a violent course of action.

I don't know where it goes from here. I really don't. It looks like ethnic cleansing to me. It's not as bad as it could be, but it's bad.

And I say this as a long-time friend of Israel.

I was 10 years old when I lived in Germany, and that was where I learned about the Holocaust.  Reading the books that were available from the base library about it were how I developed my reading skill.  I was traumatized for years by the pictures of the camps.  As a result, I've been Jewish adjacent my entire adult life.

When some one like me (and there are a lot of us) starts seeing this as an unbalanced, asymmetric war, with Israel as the bad actor, Israel has got another problem they haven't considered.

Sometimes our friends are jerks.  What you do about a friend who is a jerk is about your own character.
