  •  Turkish rule from 1453 to 1918 (13+ / 0-)

was quite varied, and also varied from place to place. The most horrific part was the Balkan wars, where, for example, early on the supposed Christian Vlad Tepes Dracula made pyramids of the skulls of Turks and those forced to fight for them, and at the very end millions of Muslims were forced out of the Balkans or killed. On the other side Christian children were kidnapped and raised as Muslim fighters for the Turkish army. There were some bad patches on the part of the Turks near the end, too, notably the genocide of Armenians.

The US behaved as a civilized nation, by your criteria, in Japan and Germany after WW II. I am hard pressed to think of other examples since the conqueror Ashoka converted to Buddhism more than two millennia ago. Certainly Afghanistan and Iraq don't qualify.

    Back off, man. I'm a logician.—GOPBusters™
