is NOT the equivalent of "sitting out" the election or acitvism in Arizona.

    That is just wrong.

It feels the same to me. We need to be standing together now more than ever, but again, I respect Markos' decision, I just disagree with it.

Voting straight party D 'til there's no GOP...

      •  Or, the NN board could have avoided this (1+ / 0-)

Very obvious problem, and not decided on holding NN in Phoenix. With even a modicum of awareness of these sorts of issues, one would be aware that it would be problematic. Yet they chose to have it in Phoenix anyways.

SB 1070 isn't exactly some obscure issue, so ignorance really isn't an excuse. I think the question needs to be asked: Why Phoenix? There's the whole SB 1070 thing, there's the hellish weather thing. What's the upshot?

First they came for the farm workers, and I said nothing.

It doesn't feel the same to me. Indeed, we can all share the same goals while choosing what it is that we will do to contribute to the effort. Some people register voters, some make phone calls, some donate money....and there are a zillion more ways to help, which allows each person to decide what works best for him or her as an individual.

Justjim, you have every right to decide that the wisest course of action for you is to go to Phoenix next year.

The fact that you're going to Phoenix and I'm not does not mean that we are working for the same goal. You contribute the way that you think best, and I'll do the same.

        •  Left out another negative.... (0+ / 0-)

Sorry about that last paragraph. Too many negatives. I was trying to say that your decision to go to Phoenix, and mine not to go to Phoenix, do not prevent us from both working toward the same goal.

There are tens of thousands of people across the U.S.--not to mention Americans abroad--who can help get more and better Democrats elected. Only a tiny, tiny fraction of those go to any NN conference as part of their contribution. And yet that doesn't mean they are somehow working against the small number of people who do, nor that progressives are dysfunctional because most will never set foot in a NN event.

        •  But this is bigger than one person. (0+ / 0-)

Markos's decision removes a huge powerful entity that involves thousands of people from a national spotlight at a crucial moment in our country's history.

Markos wants to stay away, fine, but to also boycott with the name and power that is DK diminishes both NN and the site, IMO and makes it harder to build energy as we enter the 2016 elections which will have huge implications for the next decade+ with as many as SCOTUS justices aging into retirement not to mention all of the other progressive issues on the table.

    •  So why don't you (0+ / 0-)

Not go but still engage in efforts to raise money and support it?  In the same way you would raise money to support progressive candidates in Arizona?
