  •  jadevol, I feel ya. (10+ / 0-)

I paid off 3 years of delinquent taxes + penalties last year. I hadn't realized how much weight that laid on me until I was able to shrug it off.

and this: "...after all, it's our responsibility to our society..." - my late father-in-law worked 2 or 3 jobs for most of his 97-year long life. He accumulated wealth the hard way- through manual labor and investment.
He paid taxes quarterly and never sought a loophole. "Paying taxes is the price we pay to be citizens of this great country," he told me. "I'm proud to pay my share."

If you guessed that he was a lifelong Democrat, yes, of course he was. You don't hear Republicans parting with their stash in the name of Country. No. The country owes them. (Just one of their shortcomings that they project on our side.)

He was also an atheist and, as my brother the pastor said when he conducted Dad's service, "One of the best Christians-by-deed I have ever met."

Thanks for stirring those memories and for having your head in the right place when it comes to patriotism.

Lead with Love. Forgive as a reflex.
