  •  Because Reagan was a Hollywood construct , (24+ / 0-)

he was an actor portraying a President, with a script written by less attractive politicos, and handled well by his manager and agent.  His actual mediocre tenure as President went through re-write (as all scripts do) and was reproduced as a heroic movie, starring Ronnie Reagan as Ronald Reagan, the Greatest American President ever!

The thing is, just a Reagan (who never left Hollywood during the war) believed because he had acted in a movie about a bomber pilot seeing action, he told stories on the stump about seeing action as a pilot in WW2 as if it was real.  Not surprising the Joe Scarborough believes Reagan jumped immediately into action (even though he actually did NOTHING after the Soviets blew up a civilian airliner except issue a harshly worded speech (well delivered, btw) and couldn't get the Soviets  to return the black boxes until Bill Clinton's era - maybe Reaganuts think he did that, too) because Joe drank the Reagan koolaid, he probably believes Reagan lowered the deficit, never raised taxes, and got the black box back.

The Reagan is a manufactured President, and because image-makers understand that even if everyone thinks your product stinks, you don't fix the product, you rewrite the narrative and in less than three days turn the devastating TERRORIST attack on Marine barracks in Beirut not into an immediate response to Terrorists in Beirut but into the strongest show of US Military Might and Presidential resolve by the glorious invasion of the tiniest island nation in the Caribbean with a US 7,000 man strike force of Navy Seals, Army paratroopers, US Army Delta Forces, and Marines to take on 1,500 unsuspecting Grenadian Army troops and 300 Cubans. Doh!

Glory Glory, Sleight of Hand, Reagan's a Hero, He's our Man.

Reagan proves you don't need to actually be a smart thoughtful courageous compassionate President, you just need great PR, and presto chango!
    The Greatest President Ever!
