  •  Please don't blame the government officials (8+ / 0-)

who are trying to respond to this (artificial) crisis with hands tied behind their backs.

    - The Government has been operating on a flat budget for the past three years, thanks to an unresponsive House of Representatives.

    - This uptick in border crossings began during the last government shutdown.  This has contributed to the unprecedented pile up for processing.

    - Our border enforcement may be well funded, but the infrastructure behind it-- housing and processing facilities-- has languished for years.

These officials are doing the very best they can do.  Now they are getting less than full cooperation from some governors and unnecessary "help" from others (thanks for the national guard, Gov. Perry.)

But it does no good to vilify government workers who are trying to do their best to take care of these children in a less than idea situation.

    •  It looks like you want to defend DHS (0+ / 0-)

and its policies of providing Gitmo-level cages for these children.

      •  I think the point is that field workers (6+ / 0-)

don't make the policies OR the budgets.  Those come from MUCH higher up the food chain.

        •  Igmcp . . . field workers? (0+ / 0-)

Much higher up on the FOOD CHAIN?  this comment makes me sick!  Are you sure field workers do not make policy or budgets?  Maybe they get out of working in the fields and then become people who do these things later, having started out doing this kind of work.

Perhaps I am misinterpreting your words here, but what you have said offends me tremendously.  The words used . . . food chain especially . . . .

besides thousands of children.  Job number one, however, has to keep them in place and secure.   If I were swamped with one available caretaker per hundred kids, for example, I wouldn't hesitate to use a kennel until frantic calls up the chain got me something better.

But Obama's asked for billions to take proper care of these kids and to process them correctly.  That money should come.

Someone actually admitted on DK, "Yes. If it pisses you and the other Greenwald-Tweet-pearl-clutchers off, it's smart." Wow.

I vilify the management chain that doesn't end up with someone getting in some governors face, oh yes I do....
