  •  I have fond high school memories (8+ / 0-)

and there was a lot of school and community pride for our high school mascot which was a Panther. It was a team name as well. As far as I know, it caused no pain to any young felid of the Genus Panthera.

They all spoke about school and community pride, or fond high school memories.
There are so many other names that could be used to avoid damaging a child's educational experience. OTOH, this is the same nation that lines up to yell and scream at frightened children on a bus.

Whatever happened to the concept of caring for our greatest resource, our children?

    •  Our high school teams were the "Tars" (0+ / 0-)

My high school was South Shore High School in Chicago. "The Tars" referred to sailors. Was that offensive to the Navy? I think the quality of our teams probably was! They really really sucked. But our basketball team got written up in the Chicago SunTimes for having the highest grade point average of any Chicago public school basketball team.

Ed FitzGerald for governor Of Ohio. Women's lives depend on it.
