    •  Facts and truth..? (0+ / 0-)

Truth is the accurate observation of real facts.

Mr. Garner was allegedly doing something illegal.  It was not the first time.  As illegalities go it was fairly minor.  Had he been arrested he would have gone in and probably paid another fine.  It's the cost of doing that sort of business.  If he were dealing heroin, he would have just paid off the cops, or ratted out someone pushing worse dope, and gone his merry way.  That's how it's supposed to go. He was, however, to small-time to make a deal.
But then:  He resisted arrest.  I am sure he felt justified, but it was not a smart thing to do.  Doing what is not smart is probably the most common immediate cause of death in the species.
He was a big man and the cops were afraid of him.  The situation escalated and the cops knew that they had over-reacted and wished to cover it up.
The cops after all, are human beings too, just trying to earn a living, and following orders to keep their paychecks. They know that the people they deal with hate them, most people distrust them, and they live in constant fear.  So they are quick to react violently, quick with the mace, the stick, the taser and the gun.
Move on, folks, nothing new to see here.  Just your everyday stupid humans being more stupid than usual.

The size of your heart and your capacity for human empathy truly astounds me.

      •  Your arguments do not justify the death of (5+ / 0-)

Mr. Garner. It's amazing how it is always white cops and a black man and the cops are never culpable. Coincidence?

      •  I disagree.. (2+ / 0-)

There was nothing "Human" about the actions of those involved...

And remember, a portion of his blood is on all our hands because we failed to reign in our government agencies...

Police abuse of power is nothing new. And neither is the fact that seldom is any penalty of significance applied to the perpetrators..

And that will never change, at least not until you demand it every day at the top of your lungs....

        •  Police abuse (0+ / 0-)

Police abuse has been going on in this country for so long that we've seem to have reached a point where were accept it as the norm.  Take a look at what's been going on since 9/11.  The DHS has been weaponizing local police departments turning portions into the local equivalent of special ops teams.  Big department have tank-like devices, military style choppers, drones.  Law enforcement is out of control in the US and it has been for a long time.  Most police personnel forgot for whom they work.  They work for us.  We're not their slaves yet the way the laws are written that's precisely how they can treat us.

      •  They let him die (4+ / 0-)

They applied an illegal choke hold and then neglected to provide any medical attention. Any other facts about this are just noise. They fucking took an action which caused him a fatal injury and then did nothing to save his life. End of story. Well, at least for Mr. Garner. But for his killers, they go home to their family while he gets put in the gorund. Nothing to see here? Plenty to see here, including what you are....

Funny how the TeaOP say they love America, but seem to hate most Americans...

      •  IMHO You are either ignorant, or (6+ / 0-)

        you are a troll
        you are the devil's advocate
        you are a racist
you are a white officer who feels you have a right to inflict pain and injury on others because you are a white police officer.
you are a member of the tea party.

If you are none of these things, then you need to get out into nature and reconnect with the Great One.  The death of Mr. Garner was senseless.  And to see law enforcement and medical experts watch another human being die before their eyes with the least of care from them under the circumstances is astounding.

My hope is Mr. Garner's family knows that tens of thousands of people are praying for them, and that they take NYC for everything they have.

Shame on NYC and the NYPD.

        •  Negligence to apply medical attention after injury (0+ / 0-)

is the same as a doctor shooting someone(illegal), and watching them die, without assisting.  NEGLIGENCE and worthy of law suit.  They caused the banned illegal choke hold, and then didn't do a thing to correct it.  Some protect and serve, or did those cops get laid off and the NAZI's take over?  Rumsfeld released a lot of kkk prisoners like the "dirty dozen movie" and put them in the military, on condition of fighting the war for as long as it took.  They raped fellow soldiers, and did disgusting things in uniform.  When Abu Graib broke the news, Rumsfeld didn't let them re-enlist, and some became private contractor killers, and some went on the police force.  WE have a big problem.  They laid off the 'real blue boys" for "Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld riders" on the force, and they are uncontrolable, do drugs, and steroids, and harm the public w/a badge.  Is there no wonder there is no trust now?  WE've got to round them up, at least 5,000 of 'em loose on the public.  They were his holy warriors, for the jihadist in the Holy War.

      •  And how does any of that justify doing nothing (2+ / 0-)

for him after subduing him? This is criminal negligence at the very least, and the officer who applied the choke-hold should be looking at a manslaughter charge, as would any of us had we inadvertently caused the death of another.

the penalties for the crime of Resisting Arrest do not include Death, nor refusal of basic healthcare treatment.

      •  I'm calling bullshit on that, hisxmark. (0+ / 0-)

The cops (plural) with radios to call for backup, truncheons, guns and Tasers who arrested him more than once for selling single untaxed cigarettes (because apparently they don't have better things to do) were scared of this man?  Bullshit.  They attacked and choked him, which by the way they aren't even supposed to do, since it can and obviously did result in death.

Cops aren't just humans like us, they are the Authorities, with the power to kill people like us.  And the NYPD has a long history of killing and even torturing unarmed people like us, most often African Americans.  If you think that cops like these are people like us, speak for yourself.
