Seems to me that is the next big fight we must have. We must have community policing.

    •  Thanks for this diary, Joan (10+ / 0-)

I just wanted to say people who live in NYC, not online haters who are posting comments on the news sites (like don't EVER read the Ny Daily news comments!!!)  are outraged and upset.  The Videos Show ALL.  These videos revealed everything.

I am just hoping that Mr Garner's death effects real change.  I can't be amongst those who sweep all cops into the category of bad.  Just as I don't like to be grouped into a category on the basis of my race.  There are good cops and bad cops.  Just as there are good teachers and bad teachers.  Good politicians and bad ones.

When my father died, in the house, I knew he was dead.  But called 911.  My mother realized my dad was gone, too.  The cancer took him.  That was it.

But the response was immediate.  A cop came running in since he was the first to arrive.  He began to move furniture (literally they were tossing things around to move them out of the way) to get my dad on the floor and out of the chair.  By the time he and his partner got my dad on the floor, the fire dept arrived with EMS.  They worked on my dad.  And worked on him.  The cops asked my mom and I questions like how long we thought it had been.  THey worked on my dad on the stretcher and as they were rolling him to the ambulance.  The cops escorted us to the hospital - one car ahead to clear traffic, one behind.

Cops do good things, too.  And they join the force to do those good things, too.

We need to remember these things.

There are bad cops.  Yes.  But there are also kind and caring cops, too.
