  •  My Gordon setter once treed a family (7+ / 0-)

of raccoons at about noon. I was worried they might be sick. There were warnings of rabid raccoons in that area so I called a nearby wildlife sanctuary to ask a vet. She said rabies hadn't reached our area YET but there were other reasons raccoons might be out at noon. Was the area sprayed with pesticides recently? That sometimes makes them dopey. (My father went nutso with the Roundup a few days earlier.) Was it a mother with her kits? (Yes.) Because, just like any other mama, when the young ones are hungry they gotta be fed no matter what time of the day or night it is.

Then we spent the next 20 minutes talking about Gordon setters.
