I live in the Dekalb portion of John Lewis's district (5th). In the 70's the area was subject to white-flight. Whites who choose to live in the area now are everything one would imagine a lefty Dem to be. Very LGBT-friendly, even the churches. Very environmentally active. City of Decatur has one of the best recycling programs in the State. Strong support for public schools.

Maybe I'm just not aware of the white population in the northern part of the county. But I find it hard to believe that most whites who choose to live in this majority-minority area are going to be Republicans. The Republicans I know live out in Gwinnett and are scared to use rail transit in Atlanta because of the scary blah people.

I recently moved to Chamblee.  Coming from the area of Republican mansions near Chastain Park, Chamblee is about as working class Democratic as you can get.  Brookhaven could lean Republican, maybe?  Anyway, North DeKalb is not a solid Republican area at all - certainly nothing like what you see in the North Georgia mountains, or around Buckhead.

It's a shame we're stuck with Tom Price.
