No one should wish a political convention on their worst enemy.  They turn your town into a police state.

    •  And the traffic! Forgetaboutit. (3+ / 0-)

I remember L.A. in 2000: if Gore's motorcade wanted to so much as take him out for tapas, traffic would be rerouted and jammed for miles in every direction.

But... it's L.A.! Traffic was already insane; maybe no one noticed.

the Republicans couldn't stand to stay there. And they brainwash the local police into believing hordes of barbarian anarchists are just over the horizon so no one should be allowed to go anywhere lest they be attacked by the marauding hordes.

...that the Republican conventioneers never saw any part of downtown Saint Paul.   Unless they were high muckety-mucks, they were bused in and out of the Xcel Center whenever they wanted to go somewhere for lunch or supper (the hotels generally covered breakfast), and that "somewhere" was usually downtown Minneapolis.

So none of the downtown Saint Paul businesses saw any boost in traffic, much less profit, from the RNC in 2008.

Visit for Minnesota news as it happens.
