  •  when you mix politics and religion... (12+ / 0-)

    ... you destroy both.

Religion's just a thing right-wingers cynically use to keep their voters showing up to the polls.  When it comes time to, y'know, actually be like Christ,  they want no part of it.

I'm definitely no fan of religion, but watching what the bult of Christianity has turned into under conservative stewardship is mind-boggling.   I don't even know what the purpose of Jesus is for them anymore, other than a sugar daddy who rewards them after they die, no matter how massive a shit they were when they were here on earth.  I mean, it's obvious they don't really believe in him, or they'd never dare to treat their fellow humans they way they do.  They never shut up about unborn babies, but let some already-born kids show up needing help and they never run out of excuses to ship them someplace else to die.

    •  As a Christian, I'm equally horrified at how far (2+ / 0-)

from the teachings of the faith so many have strayed. It no longer appears to matter whether someone actually walks the walk of one who believes in God. All they have to do is SAY they believe, and they're AOK with a whole lot of good people. Inversely, anyone who admits he/she doesn't believe in God is a horrible person in those same good people's eyes.

And yes: the whole unborn (or, obnoxiously, "preborn") thing irks me no end. Sorry, but those of us already here deserve priority, and I get a real charge out of those who weep over abortion but shrug and say, "They knew what they were getting into when they signed up" at news of yet another soldier killed or worse in some pointless war of choice. I have no beef with those who object to abortion per se, but for crying out loud, how about some compassion for the living?
