we can't even get close to passing a carbon tax, never mind rescind it.

    •  Carbon Tax is Regressive; Exacerbates Inequality (0+ / 0-)

If we are concerned about wealth and income inequality, we can not support a carbon tax.

Nor can we support a hike in the REGRESSIVE gas tax.

problem reducing subsidies on fossil fuels and figuring externalities -most solutions are going to 'tax' fossil fuels or raise their costs and if that means people have to get better fuel efficiency and create demand for mass transit and better planning then good. there are a hell of a lot of low income and middle class americans wasting gas at every opportunity.

is progressive and raises the income of lower-income people (because they use less energy).  British Columbia Canada is using it with great success.

The dividend is the important part.  The collected amount of the carbon tax is refunded to every legal adult resident equally, with an half-share to legal resident minors.  Would $100 or $200 per month make more of a difference to your budget or to Rupert's?  Yours, obviously.  Murdoch could put $100 on a back tooth and not taste it.
