Why does any liberal watch or pay attention to Fox News?

Everyone knows Fox News is mostly sensationalist garbage and frequently gets facts wrong.

But Fox News does one thing really well: it pisses off and upsets liberals.  It is my opinion that the people who regularly tune into Fox News do so because they enjoy pissing off and upsetting liberals.  And Fox News does a really good job of that, so that is why they watch.

But why do liberals watch?  Is it because liberals get some sort of pay-off being jerked around by Fox News?  It is sort of like going up to that school-yard bully and saying "go ahead and take my lunch money, because I like telling everyone that you are a bully who abuses me".

Why do liberals watch Fox?  You know Fox News is bs, yet still liberals watch and then start jumping around like  maniacs: "Look! I just saw some bs on Fox!!"

here's an idea: if you don't like what is on Fox, change the channel.

Ignoring Fox won't make it go away and besides you have to know what the other side is saying if you want to combat the insanity.

      •  I watch a site called Newshounds. (0+ / 0-)

It keeps an eye on Fox and wraps the nonsense into bite size chunks.

Actually, in TV, it would. Let the ratings drop.

        •  But you'd have to get the wingnuts (0+ / 0-)

to turn it off as well.  It's managed to poison what it pleases them to call their minds to such a degree that they repeatedly spout this shit at everyone who doesn't "think" (quotes because I'm not at all sure you can call what they do thinking) the same things they do.  I have good liberal friends on Facebook who get all that shit spewed at them by wingnut friends anytime they post anything supportive of Obama.  And as much as I want to bitchslap each and every one of them until they scream "No mas!  No mas!", I find that it's just easier to keep my mouth shut.

.... but you can't help seeing their BS if you are anywhere on social networks. People constantly link to The Daily Show take downs of some of their "reporting".

    •  I don't, but it's interesting to see their tries (2+ / 0-)

They're only worth wasting so much time on, but seeing how they try to troll also has helped a lot with dealing with real life trolls.

In this case, I can say, oh, they're just eight years late complaining, and move on. It's important to recognize that even if a criticism contains no, or barely any, truth, it can still hurt and be unfair, and take time to refute.

So in this case, dealing with Fox News's ridiculous comment of the week helps me cope in general. But more than that, yes, it would become time wasting and repetitive.

...but certainly no matter what political forum you're in these days, some right wing bumpkin is going to quote the 'blurb du jour' heard on FOX complete with the link to the program or remark. There is no avoiding it...it's like stepping in dog sh!t & then walking across your white carpet -- there it is, like it or not!

As for me, well I'm not pissed off. At least not at FOX. If nobody has the gonads to shove what they say back into their faces & there's enough doofus's tuning in that love hearing what they think then I'm just embarrassed that my country is proving repeatedly that it's really that stupid.

Just like the schoolyard bully...IGNORING IT WILL NOT MAKE IT GO AWAY.

No matter how many times your parents told you - if you ignore him, he will stop...we ALL know from experience that is bullshit.

Second, it is a good idea, once in a while, to see what the enemy is up to.  The same reson I once used to listen to Rush Limbaugh...and scream at the radio..."WHAT ARE YOU ON DRUNGS?!?!?"  Only to be vindicated a few years later, the guy REALLY WAS on drugs!!

Besides, good idea to see who is advertising on Fox News...good to know what companies to avoid doing business with.

Those are a few good reasons to watch Faux Bullshit Noise.

    •  Why watch FOX (0+ / 0-)

Many years ago I watched Fox a lot, but I always new there was some bullshit going on, then one day watching Fox the Dailykos was mentioned, as I said then on a post, thanks Oreilly, I went to the Dailykos and loved it.
I used to go back and watch some just to keep an eye on the enemy, but don't do that now because Oreilly is only on the premium channel now,   you know  ( looking out for the folks ) what a load that is, anyway I guess you could say if you look hard enough you can  find something good even on Fox, although its extremely rare.   KEEP UP THE FIGHT

    •  I watch it (0+ / 0-)

because I can't find a better real-time study that demonstrates the effects of syphilis and heavy boozing are having on the right wing media.

    •  Liberals watc Fox to see and hear . . . (0+ / 0-)

. . . the latest slander against them which might be legally actionable and/or useful in reminding people--voters--how destructive its brand of pod-conservatism is.
