  •  My dream is to have floor-to-ceiling built in (11+ / 0-)

bookshelves in at least one room :)

Comfort the afflicted. Afflict the comfortable.

    •  be careful about concentrating the weight (0+ / 0-)

of your books... retired librarian speaking here... books are HEAVY! If you have an accessible crawl-space or basement it will be a lot easier to tell where there is (or isn't) sufficient structural support to put your mass-book-shelf above!

Let's see, I think when we built the new library (just before I retired), we had to be sure to educate the architects to the fact that they couldn't just build to office weight-load standard! for loaded bookshelves it's standard-office times 2.5 or some such. (Just went hunting and can't find a good doc. for that, but it's AT LEAST that.) Around the foundation perimeter, along load-bearing interior walls, those are the safest locations, if you're going to use what's there. Otherwise, you might be wise to check with a structural engineer and maybe beef up support at appropriate locations.

"real" work : a job where you wash your hands BEFORE you use the bathroom...
