Where are the non-soldiers, the women, the children? Where are the various forces within any society up and down the social pyramid who contribute to and are affected by conflicts such as those represented here.

If you get a chance look over the discussion at the blog site (and the facebook page is just as fascinating though a bit overwhelming).

Why the interest in this cartoon? Why willingness to buy into the transformation of a tragic human story into a comic?

What does this have to say to us about the nature of the discussion in regard to the current outbreak of war in Palestine/Israel?

    •  Because the others have no control or input into (4+ / 0-)

      the situation.

It's the men who prosecute war that perpetuate it. All the others are just an excuse for the killing. It's done in their names, ostensibly for their ultimate benefit, but it's only an excuse. The non warriors are only an excuse for the warriors to fight. If they weren't there, there would be another excuse.

I would be interested to see what would happen if all the noncombatants banded together and decided that the generals and officers were the enemy, rather than the other ethnicities, and stopped allowing them latitude to fight.

      •  That's completely untrue (0+ / 0-)

Women have been very much involved in the history of that place, even in the wars. It is videos like this which perpetuate the idea that women have not been involved.

of the women against the men who are waging war. They with hold their bodies from the men until they make peace. Having said that I do not for a second believe that many women on both side are just as strong in their beliefs and just as zealous in their commitment as their men BUT it wold be hard to imagine campaigns of terror and warfare if only the women and children were there to wage them.
