  •  Levant As In Syria (4+ / 0-)

The "Levant" has varied in precise meaning as each of the Eastern Mediterranean and the foreign regions referencing it have changed over millennia. But the part of "Turkey" it included was the Ottoman province of Aleppo, which the British devolved into Syria, where IS Iraq got started, and a small part of SE Turkey.

The Levant today consists of the island of Cyprus, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and part of southern Turkey (the former Aleppo Vilayet).
