  •  Management is horrible to non-employees, too. (13+ / 0-)

I work retail marketing - basically, I go around to stores and put up marketing materials. (Hate it, but it pays the bills.)

Last summer when I was about 7 months pregnant, I had to put up things at multiple WalMarts. One batch of materials I handed over to the managers, because putting them up required climbing up one of their rickety-ass 10' ladders and reaching.

Some of the stores, they were good with it. One department manager even said there was no way he'd let me climb a ladder that far along.

One store manager, though... she looked me straight in the eyes and asked why I wasn't willing to "do my job". Told her my manager was short handed and wouldn't normally have sent a pregnant woman to do the project, and he okayed doing just the parts I could reach without a ladder.

She looked absolutely disgusted and muttered something about "lazy" and "special" as she walked away.

On the whole, I prefer not to be lectured on patriotism by those who keep offshore maildrops in order to avoid paying their taxes. - Molly Ivins
