  •  One of the problems I see is that there is (6+ / 0-)

personal sexism and there is institutional sexism, just as there is personal and institutional racism. People who are making a fair effort at being decent human beings still have serious blind spots that were built in by out culture. Having the kind if discourse and debate that exposes those blind spots is difficult and conflictual. Men do still have an imbalance of privilege. Gender equality requires a balancing of privilege.

However the problem as I see it, is that far too often in so many parts of life today, it is always the most radical and strident voices that make themselves heard the loudest. I feel that if there is not pushback against those on both sides who would attempt to destroy attempts to talk about important and sensitive issues with mutual respect both for one another's point of view, but also for the complexity of much of what we all deal with, then pretty soon there will be no conversations, but rather endless shouting matches, with neither side actually listening, instead holding tightly to their self righteousness and preconceptions.
