ISIS and then what? They're saved? You have to end up on the ground again at some point and then ... we're off to the races - again.

A little Humanitarian "lube" and a little media hype (help) and magically we're back in Iraq? I don't like it, it sounds too much like pulling on the U.S.'s "heart strings" again for purposes that are dubious at best.

    •  The peshmerga are on the ground. (6+ / 0-)

Air support for Kurdish ground forces can knock back ISIS and open a humanitarian corridor long enough for the Yazidis to escape to Turkey.

Your "pulling the heart strings" comment is basically you arguing that this case for using force is too good, and that's a reason to be against it.

      •  ok I'm willing to watch 40,000 run across the (0+ / 0-)

dessert to safety. And yes Dohuk is pretty far north, the ISIS has been in the north for quite awhile - what took so long for this to become a story? Why doesn't Turkey make an effort to bring them across the border?

No, "pulling on heart strings" is not arguing that the case is "too good" - it's arguing that the media and government is using this as a "gateway" (read propaganda) for getting us back into a situation where end up fighting for Exxon, Mobil and Haliburton interest - all over again.

Particularly if we're talking about what a few fighter-bombers can deliver.

The UN should give Iraq a restraining order against the US.

        •  It will disperse them further. (0+ / 0-)

And that's exactly the goal - to move them away for a little while and create a corridor.

It won't destroy the force or turn the tide of the war, but then, it's not supposed to.
