    I don't know what it is about August, but it seems Democratic numbers always drop in August then go back up after kids are back in school.

      is a pretty blue demographic, and not one most polls weight for. Then there's also the "late nights" phenomenon, where response rates go significantly down for calls before around 8:30 or 9 because a lot of people are outside and bed times are later. Some of these things can be accounted for with weights, but the higher the weights the more unstable the results.

      My experience has been that this time of year raw results tend to have too many older households, which can produce odd results. By early September, campaigns have delivered most of their heavy attacks and everyone's back in non-vacation mode.
