    ...not only for the reasons you stated, but because both of these guys went from Congress to the governor's office.
    Not that it's always true (Former NY Gov. Hugh Carey was a member of Congress who then became governor, and did a decent enough job); however, there are a fair number of examples of people giving up their jobs in Congress to become governor which didn't pan out very well. Not only Abercrombie and Corzine, but Brownback in Kansas, as well.

    It would be interesting to see an article some time about this and how other states fared when people from Congress (House or Senate) gave up their seats to become governor.

      in New York's history, after DeWitt Clinton (#1) and Al Smith (#2).

      And there are some pretty big names on the list of New York Governors -- Franklin and Theodore Roosevelt, Charles Evans Hughes, Grover Cleveland, Samuel Tilden, William Seward, John Jay....
