  •  But when they intervened in 2009 (7+ / 0-)

that sounds like witness intimidation and/or witness tampering--which is definitely a crime.

so we both know that money and privilege count when it comes to what is illegal and what is not in a local matter.  I would guess, based on sad experience, that such crimes would be impossible to prove in a court of law.

That is a very sad state of affairs IMHO

      •  Maybe so, but there are certain crimes (2+ / 0-)

so serious that they have to be prosecuted.  And this is one of them.

        •  I pray you are right but over the course (0+ / 0-)

of several decades, I have seen so many things swept under the rug and just sort of disappear that I have become even more of a cynic in my dotage

have to be prosecuted.  But that would obtain only if we lived under a system of law.  We do not. Having practiced law for over thirty years, civil and criminal, prosecution and defense  I came to the conclusion that there is no law in the United States, but only shifting policy, that shifts with who the parties are, who the police assigned are, who the chief of detectives is, who,the prosecutor is, and who,the judge is.  Jurors are not always picked in a random way, and I have seen a juror put onto a jury panel after the lot has been pulled.  That juror ended up being the foreman.
Let's be clear here.  Many times there is justice, but not very often when an important person or institution has anything to lose.

Patriotism may be the last refuge of scoundrels, but religion is assuredly the first.

          •  I agree, Stray Cat, it's all about who has the (0+ / 0-)

most money and hence the most power. These days you simply have to have the means to buy your way out. That's why it's so heinous to me that John Roberts of all people, is asking the attorneys to take political bias out of government and legislating? He must be on crack, or at least be harboring a nasty Koch habit.
