an end to this targeting of Black men and boys.  There have been so, many who have been killed.  Accountability and change for America's police departments is needed now.  More diverse representation on the country's police department rosters is needed now.  Healing is needed now!
Forgiveness will take it's own time.

Democratic Party was interviewed and asked why it appeared that black Ferguson residents weren't voting (based on the town's demographics and the composition of the city council and school board).  Her answer lacked insight and was full of shallow platitudes. They're poor.  Working hard.  Trying to put food on the table and so forth.  The Democratic Party and other groups like the NAACP need to work to get out the vote, help people get registered and to the polls, etc. because their lives, literally, depend on it.

communities. From a comment I made yesterday:

It is sad that people are having to face police abuse of their rights to assemble and protest peacefully, reporters getting arrested by out of control police and all the rest in order to learn that the time to fix the problem is before it gets to this state—at the local elections. It does crap all for the most direct government effect on your life to turn out to vote for Obama—or any presidential candidate—and leave the rest of the ticket alone.
I did a quick check on my county's last elections for top law enforcement and noted only about 73% of the voters bothered that far down ticket. In one of the best educated and wealthiest counties, rivaling small states in population and budget, we still have something of a left over good ole boy (the county has gone from lots of "horse country to pretty much urban since the early 90s) as prosecutor. He has been rather slow on a number of questionable police incidents here, not at all white/black, and one of those incidents, as of a year or more later, had no answers.

Everywhere I've lived over my fairly long life now I've noticed the voters standing back on the law enforcement question. I don't much like elected police chiefs, rather treat that as a professional appointment, but voter control and oversight of those doing the appointing seems generally lacking.

The question if clear. Why has the African American population of the town not effected change earlier? If that suppressed why have we not seen DoJ in there years ago? My suspicion is that they have been self suppressed and as a result had to face a consequence we all face when we sit silent on local issues that have the greatest effect on our lives. The residents there have had a wake up call and we can hope will next march down, register and sweep the political establishment from office next election.

For some of us it may only be the demonstration that it is largely too late to act when the bulldozers destroy that beloved historic section or woodland to develop when we should have used our votes all along to sweep developer controlled local officials out of office. For some, like this town, the wake up is worse. Local elections are generally more important to your daily life and prospects than who sits in the White House, yet we keep seeing huge drop offs down ticket in the local contests.

since the racism runs deep in St Louis county. He already called out the Governor.

I voted Tuesday, May 6, 2014 because it is my right, my responsibility and because my parents moved from Alabama to Ohio to vote. Unfortunately, the republicons want to turn Ohio into Alabama.
