    of the Governor, not the president. Nixon clearly has the authority to use them unless Obama took steps to federalize them. Obama and Nixon seem to be working in cooperation so conflicts of authority don't seem very likely to come up.

      The U.S. president definitely has authority to federalize the national guard.

        to suppress insurrections, rebellions, an "domestic violence." But in the Ferguson case, there is no insurrection that requires federal intervention.
          What everyone is upset about is the local police - and so far they've acted like every other police force that's faced a situation like this. But the Galactic Storm Trooper costumes accentuate the heavy handedness in the public eye.
          Standing down the locals and bringing in the MHP should tone things down a bit.
