  •  It lays the groundwork for a defense of the cop (3+ / 0-)

His neighborhood said he was a very gentle giant, and that he had his hands in the air saying "don't shoot"

If that is him, then he's clearly was not a gentle giant, and it reasons that his local neighbors felt extreme social pressure to adjust their eye witness testimony to match his friends

Anyone who does research on eye witness testimony knows it is extremely flimsy and subject to rewriting that your brain doesn't even know its doing

So then a counter story follows from the cops: Yes, we're disorganized and did a terrible job in the follow up, but in the actual event we had an officer confronting a violent giant imposing figure that tried to steal his gun, and in the violent confusion he fired as the suspect was turning away

Not that I believe any of that, but I'm just stating how the photos are relevant to the general narrative and how a defense may be constructed

    •  Thanks for saying this (0+ / 0-)

Eyewitness testimony is notoriously inaccurate. It's not that people consciously lie; rather, their memories are not accurate even just after the event, and subconscious rewriting takes place as time goes on.

We should be very skeptical of eyewitness testimony.

that simply is not ok. Cops need to be able to f*n run to catch up with people, not be fat and lazy so they have to shoot to stop a fleeing suspect.
