to MSNBC and other news agencies that they did in fact steal the cigars:

    Quote from the friend's lawyer.

“We need to see that tape, my client did tell us and told the FBI that they went into the store. He told FBI that [Brown] did take cigarillos. He told that to the DOJ and the St. Louis County Police.”
This in no way justifies killing an unarmed man regardless if he's a suspect.

This in no way justifies militarizing police forces and deploying snipers and heavily armed cops on the streets.

But we should be honest with ourselves. If, in fact, Mike Brown did this he shouldn't have been killed for it but he's no longer a hero.

That in no way changes what the police did.

When we stop putting leaders from the past up on pedestals and ignoring their flaws, we can start seeing our present leaders for what they really are.

    •  Since when was he a hero? (6+ / 0-)

Does being killed make you a hero now? Does being enrolled in school make you a hero?

When was he made into a hero?  And since when have heroes been perfect?

        irrelevant to what happened.

Given that his friend admitted through his lawyer that they did steal the cigars, we might as well admit it to OURSELVES.

Trying to say that stealing things and basically assaulting and intimidating a clerk that confronts you is just "boys will be boys" behavior that everyone does is extremely condescending in my opinion particularly to the black community. Not everyone does things like that and personally I believe that MOST people don't do things like that.

Mike Brown was wrong to do what he did. We should be able to admit that and not try to pretend he wasn't.

It's also TOTALLY IRRELEVANT to him being shot, especially because the officer apparently didn't even know about it.

        •  If it's irrelevant then why are we having this (1+ / 0-)

conversation? We both know it's relevant. It turns him into a scary black man. I mean look what he was wearing!!!!!

You're the one who decided to talk about him as a hero, not anyone else.
