  •  I figured they'd have two ways to go with this (10+ / 0-)

One, find someone with a lot of experience, gravitas and a heavy hitter who might have an outside chance of winning and make a real fight for the seat.  Unfortunately, there weren't many of those running around after Schweitzer took his name out of consideration.

    ...OR...

Put a new face out there and groom them for the future, but essentially write the race off.

They went for the latter, which is probably the best they could do at this point.  Barring a scandal, this one is over (not that there as much chance anyway).

Dammit Jim, I'm a lawyer, not a grammarian. So sue me.

...that could give Curtis a chance, but you're right...my immediate impression was that, with a little more than two months to go, it looks like Montana Democrats are trying to nominate a credible candidate who might be a good prospect for future statewide office, but who might be able to capitalize in case of an unlikely Daines meltdown.

She doesn't have to win to be judged as having run a good campaign. If she just puts together something that looks like a real campaign under these difficult circumstances, then she'll be judged a success.
