  •  The media narratives about black America (9+ / 0-)

have become so deeply embedded in the collective psyche that the people who write the trash and the people who read it don't ever stop to question its automatic assumptions.

    •  Nothing has changed (10+ / 0-)

in my lifetime when it comes to stereotypes and treatment of African Americans except for white people telling me that race si no longer a big deal.

Well, being a white person and seeing what I've seen over the course of 58 years, I can say unequivocally that nothing of substance has changed.  Schools still segregated.  Police still harass and profile black males of all ages.  Black people are still beaten, abused, arrested, shot and killed by the police at a higher rate per capita than white people.

Yeah, we elected a black president.  And our so-called progress in racial relations have been exposed as so much BS.

I fear for the people of Ferguson.  It appears to me that the police want a riot, want a confrontation with the black community, and want anything that will distract attention from the essential fact that a police officer executed and murdered, with what can only be considered premeditation, a young, unarmed black male while he was kneeling in the street, his arms in the air.
