    I believe as long as the governor has declared a state of emergency (which he did), he has the authority to call out the Guard. The governor is not required to inform the president or ask his permission. Please correct me if I have misunderstood though - I don't claim a great deal of knowledge.

    Of course, given the situation, a little heads up would have been the responsible thing to do, but clearly that is asking a lot. /snark.

    Watch out or I'll go get my shovel and unload plant divisions on you!

      . . . of consulting with the president & attorney general before making such a decision? Especially a Democratic governor toward a Democratic administration.

        I would think, barring immediate, immanent threat, the least they could do would be send a quick note to someone so they wouldn't look like nimrods when the press starts calling.

        This has been mishandled on so many levels.
