views were well in line with the CIA. Nixon? About the same. GWB, Pentagon hero.

I literally have no idea what you're talking about. Are you saying that the prez and VP don't work for the executive branch, but secretly for the CIA & DoD--which, in case you don't know, report to the WH?

The milcon runs the place. If the executive branch happens to be on the same page, good. If not, they don't care and the policies are still the same. They just tell the WH to go fuck yourselves.

I get your drift, but it's a lot more complicated than your General Jack D Ripper scenario. There are MANY powerful interests that pull the strings, and the MIC is but one of them. And in any case, it's not the DoD or CIA that run things, but the people who effectively control THEM, in the private sector.

One might even go so far as to claim that our government might be corrupted, but it's a diffuse and even democratic kind of corruption, with a sort of de facto system of checks and balances between competing special interests.

special interests with common goals. But yes its likely that the forces are a private/public partnership. Like you say its complicated, yet it keeps pushing us inexorably in this direction of a militarized, fascist state with an elected puppet.

              •  It's always been this way, actually (2+ / 0-)

It always will be this way. It's this way the world over. The political forms might change and evolve and the people might get somewhat more power (and it's undeniable that they have), and the specifics more complex, but basically, the world has always been and always be controlled by powerful special interests. So you're not really saying anything new to anyone who understands how the world works. However, I still contend that there's more competition between these interests than you admit to, and that they don't always have shared interests, goals and methods. E.g. big oil & coal vs. green energy, old vs. new media, or arms makers vs. infrastructure manufacturers and builders.

Our role as proles is to pit these special interests against each other in ways that best serve our interests, even as they continue to soak up most of the wealth. For all my issues with Obama I'd rather implicitly support the special interests that back him vs. the ones that back the other side. But I'm under no illusions that he is owned by these special interests.

of "democracy" is WAY better than the RW one. It used to be that we had a dream. This Ferguson thing is like the dream being stomped out.
