I thought he was just a goofball.

If he's trying to spur violence, yeah, then he ought to be sidelined as peacefully as can be managed.

    •  Not just him (19+ / 0-)

He has...apostles? He's got some folks following him who are True Believers. And they were definitely out on the streets last night trying to start a fight. Charles Johnson who runs Little Green Footballs and loathes RCP was Tweeting about them late into the night, posting pictures of them facing off against the police. They're such dangerous morons.

for Trayvon here in Sanford. They were peaceful, with big banners and a microphone and told me they were from Chicago. They were totally ignored by protesters, although CNN had a camera on them. There was some Muslim group handing out flyers and a few other groups. They were all sideshows and peaceful.

I'll bet though that if there had been violence in Sanford, "outside agitators" would have been very convenient to blame.

Sunday mornings are more beautiful without Meet the Press.

    •  Those people are ridiculous (16+ / 0-)

We have a few here. They love to provoke confrontations so they can paint themselves as heroes. Surprised the LaRouchies aren't there.

      •  Me too! (7+ / 0-)

I fully expected them to be there by now since the media showed up. I mean, heck, even the Klan might be making an appearance.

      •  Ferguson has become a crazy magnet! (4+ / 0-)

There are legitimate reasons for protesting what happened to Micheal Brown.

There are legitimate reasons for protesting what has happened to young African American men in our society and judicial system.

There are legitimate reasons for protesting the disenfranchisement of African Americans in Ferguson... their own town... and seeing them as representative of their treatment nation wide.

There are legitimate reasons for protesting the loss of blue collar jobs that used to be a stepping stone for all Americans out of poverty... especially needed by the African American community.

There are legitimate protestors in Ferguson giving voice to all of these concerns... and they are the vast majority and they are peaceful.

But now small groups of violent nut jobs of every stripe are seeking to co-opt the national spotlight for their own nut job agendas and they have to be stopped.

Violence is not free speech. Starting a riot is not free speech. Violence is a sickness... a disease.

      •  IMO, they don't all do it (1+ / 0-)

just to paint themselves as heroes. But agreed with your point overall...

writing off any of these agitators as "just a goofball" shows--at the very least--a striking level of naivete for someone who has been a regular on this particular blog for so very, very long...

      •  Well I just believe strongly in freedom of speech. (0+ / 0-)

I have waxed on and off DKos over the years. I didn't know I would be considered a regular!

I wasn't familiar with the white-haired Commie Chicago man. For better or worse, I tend to tune out the wackiest sects.

If he is pushing for violence, then he should be shut up.
Is that the goal of his group's activism? Sparking revolution?

        •  Heh (0+ / 0-)

anything less than a six-digit UID tends to make you a "regular" (at least to me, whether you are off/on or not, you've been 'round the block a bit here).

If he is pushing for violence, then he should be shut up.
          Absolutely
Is that the goal of his group's activism? Sparking revolution?
Sparking "revolution" or sparking "violence"? Can we make the distinction, specifically?

          •  You're going to make me google this wackjob, no? (0+ / 0-)

Darn it. Now I have to engage in some effort.

            •  Why would you need to Google him (0+ / 0-)

when the question was directed at you?

Sparking "revolution" or sparking "violence"? Can we make the distinction, specifically?
I don't care who is instigating it, a distinction needs to be made between those two things.

              •  History shows that distinction to be difficult. (0+ / 0-)

Revolutions can devolve into cycles of violence.

But yes, there is a huge difference between calling for violence for the heck of it (or to serve as a spark, or a symbol, or whatever) and calling for organized insurrection.

Personally, I hesitate to do either given the current US context.
