There was no shortage of journalist outrage during Katrina.

As soon as everyone went home and had a Martini at their favorite spot and were reminded who signs the checks it was all forgotten.

This country gets more depraved every minute. Now folks are tuning in each evening to watch "the riot". Sick.

is that people who should know better are buying into this "riot narrative."

I had a very disheartening conversation with a friend last night about Ferguson. This friend is intelligent, thoughtful, social-justice-minded and well informed.

      Here's what she said:

"I'm just struggling to understand. I don't know why someone hasn't stood up, hasn't spoken up, for that community -- especially on behalf of the business owners. How do they [ed. note: ick] not get that they're destroying their own livelihoods and property?"

I wanted to cry. But then it hit me: My friend is only getting her news from the MSM -- and she takes what's being portrayed, and whitewashed, as the truth.

I'm working on her. But I think of the millions of other people watching the same news, and drawing the same conclusions, without anyone committed to painting for them the bigger picture.

And these are people who should know better. Since when did we collectively stop questioning?

You see, there are still faint glimmers of civilization left in this barbaric slaughterhouse that was once known as humanity. Indeed that's what we provide in our own modest, humble, insignificant... oh, fuck it. -- M. Gustave
