  •  Well, you could probably put (8+ / 0-)

Ray Lewis in that category -- though in both Lewis' and Simpson's case, it may have been less the money and more the notoriety of being a famous football player. (Almost expecting Aaron Hernandez to get off on some technicality, though he seems to have dug his own grave pretty deep from all accounts.)

one of the few avenues for African Americans to rise from poverty into "1%er" status . . .

Thus it is a tad difficult to convolute fame and wealth in these cases.

But it is interesting to note that thoroughly corrupt wealthy African Americans such as Michael Steele who (to my knowledge) have no sports credentials have also totally escaped any prosecution.

It sounds to me that you are convicting these people of crimes when they were found innocent. The case mentioned in this article is of someone who is blatantly guilty. How far are the leaps you are making?

        •  Come on Ray Lewis was guilty (0+ / 0-)

He got out by ratting out his friends.

I as a lawyer make money by being better than other lawyers. By being smart. The truth is never one thing. I am not a criminal attorney, but I get it's the same game.

He was found "not guilty", which isn't the same thing.  Not guilty can mean anything from "innocent" to "not quite enough evidence to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt".

If Democrats proclaim the the Earth is round and Republicans insist it is flat, we will shortly see a column in the Washington Post claiming the the earth is really a semi-circle.

    •  Yeah, and Colin Powell . .. . (0+ / 0-)

the point being, affluence trumps race every time, what with that particular fuckwad enjoying every bit of immunity for war crimes as the likes of Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, or George W Bush.

      •  wrong, see above (0+ / 0-)

"the point being, affluence trumps race every time"

no, it doesn't, and I just gave you a couple examples above.  Try making another point, if you ever had a good one other than whining about the white man's burden.

    •  Gang status (0+ / 0-)

His reputed gang status (Latin Kings) may trump being in the NFL.  Upon arrest the police were taking pictures of all of his tattoos to see if they were linked to the rumor.

    •  Check the details (0+ / 0-)

of Lewis' case. There was no evidence that he killed anyone. In this instance anyway, the court got it right.
