If you blink the cops think you're about to attack with your imaginary gun.  I think if you're going to put on a uniform you should be doing more than just saving your own ass.  It's why cops are called "real heroes" because they put their lives on the line.  I guess many of them do.  Reality is so muddled by all the cop shows and movies where liberal judges and all that red tape keeps Dirty Larry or Harry or Moe from shooting "Mendoza" on sight (though he deserves it so much) that I forgot if there's such a thing as a good cop, or just propaganda about good cops.

Now that so many citizens want to own guns and shoot anyone who blinks at them-- they can protect themselves on their own.  Apparently their level of expertise in handling a potential threat is about the same as the cops'.  Which is to react and shoot.

I think of these awful wars-- we send Americans into Iraq and Afghanistan and their main unofficial mission is to get home alive.  It's a dehumanizing situation for everyone.

The mission of the police shouldn't be to protect themselves from perceived threats and shoot at the first sign of it (real or not).
