  •  I hadn't heard about this, so thanks for reporting (4+ / 0-)

it. I don't want to come off as paranoid as Putin, but I think aoeu has a point about the fact that those "relief supplies" could be advance supplies for an invading force.

Seems like this situation in Ukraine is going to get worse before it gets better.

    •  I doubt it. (4+ / 0-)

First of all, Lugansk - where the convoy is headed is really close to the Russian border. It's not exactly difficult for the Russian Army to maintain supply lines over there.

My guess is that this is an actual honest-to-god relief convoy, given how the Russians have been playing their cards (skim through RT for an illustration of their arguments).

Think about it: This convoy has been heavily publicised, and the Russians have quite intentionally drawn a contrast between the Ukrainian government shelling its own cities and the Russian Federation calling for a ceasefire and helping the populace. My guess is that this is a PR campaign and/or a way to goad Ukraine into doing something really stupid like attacking a convoy which turns out to include nothing but humanitarian supplies (as an additional note, Russia has apparently had little trouble in furnishing the rebels with whatever they require).
