  •  In pointy brackets write the word sub to start and (7+ / 0-)

    /sub to finish.

    CCI [sub]4[/sub]
    CCI4

It may not work in a title. Sometimes font changes do work in a title, but they shorten the amount of space you're allowed in your subject title.

bathroom visit and was going back to bed to sleep in on a Sunday and saw this and posted it without thinking.

As I was trying to fall back asleep I was thinking? "WTH!" "I" ?

And then felt sorry for myself that I never got to take a college level organic chemistry class. Hasn't educational technology advanced enough that we should be teaching organic chem in High Schools?

Thanks. Cl for make perfect sence Carbon TetraChloride  Carbon with 4 Chlorides CCl4 makes so much more sense than when I first read the article that seemed to be saying CC 14 which I'd never seen before. What is this new element "CC" that occurs in such an unusual ring of 14?  and even without organic chem Should be C2 ?? so I figured this must be some new way of writing C2I4 which I had never heard of.

I guess this should be a lesson that people should not do 'sleep walking posts under he influence of Ambian.  Ambian is supposed to only last 5 hour but it one wakes up to pee and checks one computer look what trouble can ensue.

          Thanks.

like yourself has to make a typo once in a while.  It's just unavoidable, statistically.

            •  You are too kind, Sandino. It wasn't really (2+ / 0-)

a typo, I copied it out of the article.

Now I'm so miffed I got led off the cliff I'm tempted to take out the subscript corrections I made to the original article that our script editor will not allow me to make to my title.

So now it looks like the original article got it right, and I screwed up.

I really hate it when this happens.

But, I really appreciate it when experts like you yourself are gracious about it. You just as easily could have say, "shouldn't we have a rule that only people with some demonstrated competence or degrees should be able to make science related posts."   I really 2 hate it even more when that happens.

But, now I feel better after figuring out how to do superscripts in HTML 5 in only two guesses. Ha! What I may lack in college level organic chem classes, perhaps, I can make up by being fast on my feet.  Maybe I'll change my UID to "The Tap-Dancing HoundDog" or maybe even "FoxHound?"  I wish I had thought of that before accumulating five bars.

    •  Since you can escape pointy brackets (1+ / 0-)

with backslashes, you can actually show the code completely.

      CCl4
But I can't escape the backslashes to show you how exactly how I did it. Type a backlslash where this says 'backslash'
      backslash<
      or

      \ <

      without the space to get

      <
