    Those were privately owned dams on federal land, on State-regulated rivers, so the tangled bureaucracy alone slowed down the process.

    Removing the threat of mill closure was a big help.  There were hundreds of new jobs to demolish the dams, too.

    I have some other dams I'd like to nominate for demo (Snake cough, River cough), but we'd be going up against some powerful farming interests who want that diverted water.
