impact President Obama had on these improvements.  Democrats ran in terror when changes to Medicare were mentioned.  Obama had people looking at weaknesses, over-payments, the over-use of expensive testing, over- use of extreme efforts to extend life by days or weeks when "life" was pain and suffering.  He got statistics on readmissions, and the % due to hospital caused infections.  He pushed for online consumer sites with those stats listed.  Medicare won't cover treatments in hospitals that don't meet basic metrics of good care.  Rick Scott had to run for governor because the Medicare gravy train quit running.  Lots of people here raised hell about his determination to streamline Medicare, as they raise hell every time there's a suggestion that SS could work better.  It might defuse the fear if Obama got the lion's share of the credit for taking the risk to improve Medicare, despite the misinformation from all sides.

If people have the time and energy for pointing out the imperfections -- then they should have the wherewithal to help make improvements.

      •  I depend on SS and Medicare. (0+ / 0-)

I follow this stuff pretty closely.  I was thrilled that Obama was using data to improve the system and gobsmacked by the negativity from lefties.  Same with SS.  I run about $750 in the hole every month, have to make up the difference by working.  Disabled people aren't easily hired these days so it's a month to month scramble.  And I'm one of the lucky people.  My heart hurts for people who just can't make it and end up in scary group homes, my biggest fear.
